Can International Students Apply to WGU?

No, Western Governors University (WGU) does not officially accept international students. They only allow U.S. residents, military personnel stationed abroad, and residents of Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

How Have Some International Students Enrolled?

  • Persistence – Some students repeatedly contacted WGU and eventually got accepted.
  • Case-by-Case Basis – Acceptance depends on the degree program and the enrollment counselor.
  • Transcript Evaluation – If accepted, WGU may require an official evaluation of international transcripts.

WGU is affordable because it follows a unique education model that reduces costs. Since it is an online-only university, it doesn’t have expenses for large campuses or classrooms. Instead of charging per course, WGU uses a flat tuition fee per term, allowing students to complete as many courses as they can without paying extra. The university also operates as a nonprofit, meaning its goal is to keep education affordable rather than make a profit.

Additionally, WGU uses a competency-based learning system, which lets students move through subjects they already know faster, saving both time and money. These factors make WGU a cost-effective choice for higher education.

No, WGU does not provide a laptop to students.

Students are expected to have their own computer to complete coursework. However, WGU does offer discounts on laptops and software through partnerships with various tech companies. If you need help getting a computer, you can check WGU’s student resources for recommendations and discounts.
